The Grand Prairie Shrine Club was organized in mid 1980 with 87 members. Argyle Tucker was the first president. Other presidents presided through the years, during which time membership steadily declined for various reasons such as: age, death, moving away, etc. In 1995 the membership consisted of 31 nobles and 7 special ladies. Now in August 2008, there are 16 members and 3 special ladies who are able to attend meetings. The club has met at 4 different locations, the last being the Grand Prairie Senior Citizens Center where we currently meet. This year, we started meeting only 4 times per year February, May, September and December at 7:00 p.m. on the second Monday. We have food catered, and sometimes covered-dish dinners. Following dinner, we have a program and short business session.

The club participates in Hella activities, such as hospital funding drives and the circus with program ads and work at shows. Some nobles are also in other Hella units, such as the Provost Guard and Clowns. In fact, our own Wayne Osborne is the Hella website web master. Locally, the club participates in the City Adopt-A-Street program by being responsible for picking up litter on a busy mile of Carrier Parkway.

Shriners living in Grand Prairie are encouraged to attend meetings and help us keep the club alive. If this will be your first time to attend, wear your fez, dress comfortable, and bring your lady. Be our guests!
