HELLA ORIENTAL BAND
in THE BEGINNING and 40 years later
Hella Temple Oriental Band came into being January, 1966. The 1966 Potentate, Morris B. Bently appointed E. C. "Dutch" Wahrmund as Director and Bob Burns as Captain.
The Hella Oriental Band made their first appearance before the Nobility at a stated meeting on April 21, 1966. The Band received a standing ovation for their rendition of "Slave Girl" and " The Saints". Over the years the Hella Oriental Band has competed many times and has won many awards.
At the 1966 Shrine Convention, the band appeared as a non-competing marching unit for the first time. The band as appeared in parades from then and until now. Among the members of the band, four became President of TASOB. Jim Mutzabaugh, TASOB President 2005, is active with the Band.
The Hella Oriental Band is honored with four active members that are Past Potentates. Illustrious Sir Ted Lyman, Illustrious Sir J.W. Nelson, Illustrious Sir Don Moore, and Illustrious Sir Jerry Novell. In Memoriam, Illustrious Sir Lonnie Welch, deceased,
